One week after being on the Bengals’ roster bubble, Taylor Mays could be logging some playing time on passing downs.
Mays, who has clearly struggled in pass coverage as a safety, has been played at linebacker in their nickel package, according to The Cincinnati Enquirer’s Joe Reedy.
Speculation grew that the Bengals would need another linebacker following Emmanuel Lamur’s season-ending shoulder injury in Thursday’s preseason finale.
After Wednesday’s practice head coach Marvin Lewis didn’t dig too deep into the topic and said that the team is merely focused on Sunday’s game.
“Taylor’s been playing those spots since he’s been here,” Lewis said. “This is not experiment time. We’re trying to get ready for the Bears.”
