CSN Bay Area reports the San Francisco 49ers are paying Aldon Smith while he is seeking treatment for alcohol issues. He is expected to be gone from the team for about a month and is on the reserve/non-football illness list. He makes about $99,000 a pay check.
The team had the option of not paying him. But the 49ers have vowed to support Smith, and that means financially as well. Because Smith is seeking help on his own, there is no need for the team to take a hard stance here. Paying him is the right call.
